Slender Figure
1980 | Cat. No. 266 | Bronze | Height 380 cm
Inscription on the base:
MESSENGER SINGS ALOUD THE SONG OF LOVE AND FRIENDSHIP AND FREEDOM
In the Slender Figure, Kirchner reduces the sculpture to its basic forms. Similar to the figure of the Herald, the monumental, block-like stature is broken only by a protruding, figurative foot. The overstretched and diagonally open arms, however, symbolise the trust required for a relationship between humans. This theatrical gesture points to the figure as a singing messenger, who gives his voice to the song of love and friendship.
